WASHINGTON SEEKING A SINGLE CARETAKER OR COUPLE FOR A 100-ACRE PROPERTY in Washington State. We are located in a rural setting in the foothills of the North Cascade Mountains in Whatcom County, 26 miles from Bellingham. We provide an attractive well-maintained one-bedroom and loft house and all utilities in a beautiful setting in exchange for caretakers looking after the place when we are away and performing some basic maintenance jobs. Other work on the property such as taking care of planned and unplanned maintenance and repair jobs is paid at an hourly rate. The position allows caretakers plenty of free time. Work includes caring for two cats during occasional owner absences; seasonal grass trimming, operation of tractor for winter plowing, maintenance of equipment involving small motors, and fence and building repairs as needed. Useful skills include basic property maintenance, use of power equipment such as trimmers and chainsaws, and basic small motor maintenance. Spring and summer are busier times but still allow plenty of caretaker free time. Winters tend to be quiet. Note that the main compensation to caretaker(s) is the house and utilities. Non-basic jobs are paid by the hour with a minimum monthly stipend. Because of the limited work hours particularly in winter, caretaker(s) may need some supplemental income. Caretaker(s) must be nonsmokers, physically fit, and animal lovers. The ideal candidate(s) will be seeking a long-term commitment.
